PC028 Political Contessa Women Running for Office - All Things Considered with Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis is the only Republican to represent part of New York City in Congress. She’s also one of four female Republicans that are elected in New York City. (The other three are on the New York City City Council.) She is the congresswoman from the 11th Congressional District, which comprises Staten Island and southern Brooklyn. She was elected in November of 2020 and defeated an incumbent who is also a man. She was first elected to the New York State Assembly and served from 2001-2020, and she was the Republican nominee for mayor of New York City in 2017.

Today, Nicole joins me to share her story. She talks about how she got her start and why running for office is important to her. She discusses her mother’s role in her choice to run for office and shares the key factor that helps her decide whether to run against an incumbent: whether they’re doing a good job. She notes the importance of holding public officials accountable, discusses the double standard of the mask mandates, and explains why, more and more, people are standing up to liberal hypocrisy. She also shares her thoughts on the border crisis

“I only run against incumbents that I feel are not doing their job. I feel it’s important for accountability that those incumbents that aren’t doing a good job, are challenged.”
