Larissa Martinez and I met when I was Executive Director of Reflect Us, a nationwide bipartisan organization of leading women's political organizations around the country. Larissa joins me in her role now as the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Women's Public Leadership Network (WPLN). She is a policy expert and skilled political strategist with a proven track record of delivering winning and multifaceted strategies. She combines policy, communications, and grassroots organizing. She has served as a senior government relations professional in Washington, DC and is currently based out of Atlanta. Like me, Larissa feels that working in the space of women in politics is important because there are so many great women across the country with so many unique perspectives and ideas, and these women have the passion to run for office. Larissa is out there helping organizations like the Pocketbook Project support women, train them, and get them out there running for office and winning.
Today, Larissa joins me to talk about why we need more women in public office. We talk about why women don't need to be democrats and why women right of center need support. She discusses what WPLN does to provide this support and makes a distinction between nonpartisan and neutral. We discuss how to navigate when you don't agree with your party and explain the problem with activist leaders. Finally, Larissa tells all about the upcoming WPLN inaugural summit in New Orleans.
