PC038 Political Contessa Platforms, Publications, and Freedom of Speech
Freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion are all at risk, particularly when media and social media platforms are owned by billionaires who wield their power according to their personal ideologies. This is why it’s so refreshing to see one who doesn’t plan to monitor and suspend people who say the “wrong” things.
Today, I talk about Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter. I point out the hypocrisy of the idea that billionaires on the left can own social media and media companies while billionaires on the right can’t. I also explore the assumptions that people on the left make about people who aren’t far left.
“When we start saying that we, the public, get to pick and choose where people spend their money, and then we tell them who is allowed to speak in those publications or platforms, we are putting free speech at risk. I’m not willing to do that. I don’t want to see that happen. You don’t want to see that happen.”
