PC005 Political Contessa Polarization

Political polarization is out of control in America. Both sides are guilty of it, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. So how do we break through it and start making constructive headway?

Today, I talk about what’s behind all of the polarization and how we can move past it. I point out that we tend to vote for fun candidates with catchy rhetoric, treating them more like celebrities than elected officials. I explain why this tendency is where many of our problems come from, and I talk about what to look for in a candidate instead of rhetoric.

“Our elected officials are elected to serve us. They’re paid by tax dollars, which means that they work for each of us. If you pay taxes, they work for you. Not the other way around. They’re not celebrities.”-Jennifer Nassour
